Your exposition is clear and thorough. But it’s talking past the people who need to be convinced. To the Left, the cases you cite of U.S. – Israel cooperation merely confirm that the two countries are partners in an imperialist enterprise aimed at depriving legitimate nations (i.e., not Israel) of their national and ethnic rights and territory. To the Right, it is evidence that Israel has co-opted American foreign and defense policy for its own purposes. Neither group would agree with the assumption underlying your argument: that American national security requires solid strategic partnerships with democracies that are proximate to the world’s trouble spots (Taiwan being another example). So while the clarity of your essay is welcome, it isn’t going to change any minds.
